Most of you know that Kai was named so because it means sea or ocean in Hawaiian. We were married in Maui and met scuba diving so we thought it was very appropriate. Plus, when we met him, he looked like a Kai.
I have since discovered other meanings for Kai (all of which are great). Here they are:
In Navajo Native American- willow tree
In Scottish- fire
The name of the head of the Bajoran faith in the Star Trek universe (Sean loves)
"food" in Māori - the indigenous people of New Zealand
Kai is a Polynesian, Japanese, and Hawaiian word/name meaning "big water", "the ocean", "the sea"; Makai means "towards big water".
In Burmese, Kai means "strong", or "unbreakable".
In Japanese, Kai has several meanings, including "change" or "the action to correct", "mediation" or "concerning oneself with", as well as "sea" (the last definition possibly derived from Polynesian languages). I have also heard it means "forgiveness"
